Straight through sighting with viewfinders is great until you have to look at something near the zenith. Then you have to get under the finder and somehow look straight through the viewfinder, or in this case, the Telrad Reflex Sight. But fear not, the Telrad Dew Shield + with its 90 degree mirror allows for right angle sighting through the Telrad, and it doubles as a dew shield by pivoting over the top of the Telrad to slow the formation of dew forming on the reticle projection optics.
The Dew Shield + is an elegant solution that not only extends the time you can use a Telrad before dew takes over, it also protects the Telrad reticle, which can deteriorate from repeated formation of dew on its surface.
Friction holds the dew shield in either an open or closed position. The amount of friction can be adjusted by tightening the two screws that hold the dew shield to its metal attachment brackets. To use, flip the Dew Shield + back and lower its built-in flip mirror from its home position to a 45 degree angle, then look downwards to the top of the Telrad to see the relfection of the red illuminated reticle. To use as a dew shield move the flip mirror to home position, and flip the device forward.
